Job Example of Copper Ridge Cap Installation
Copper Ridge Caps
Ridge Caps are a permanent solution to protect the ridge and hips of the roof where the two planes of the roof intersect.
On this job we started by fabricating the cleats. The cleats have a 1/2” hem on both sides to give the metal structure so it doesn’t pull up with high winds.
Then we install the cleats by drilling holes every 24” along the hips and ridges. The cleats are screws into these holes using screws approximately one inch from where the ridge cap ends.
Once the cleats are installed we fabricate the ridge and hip caps using 16 oz cold rolled copper which keeps its form. Then we install the ridge caps in place by bending the cleats over the cap and riveting them down using copper rivets with brass mandrels.
We use this process of cleating with hidden fasteners so that there are no penetrations going through the roof that allow rain to ride the screw into the attic.
